Los Angeles Food and Drink

Los Angeles has one of the most dynamic dining scenes in the USA, covering everything from street food to five-star restaurants. Alongside the best oceanfront dining in Southern California, there’s plenty of places to get authentic, reasonably priced ethnic food, especially tucked away in the neighbourhoods. You won’t need to go more than a few paces to find a drink in LA. From Culver City to Highland Park there’s plenty of choice, from hole-in-the-wall speak-easys to fancy historic watering holes where cocktail making is an art; to kitschy themed bars; to just a place to stop for a beer or get a good coffee.

WP24 by Wolfgang Puck

Wolfgang Puck’s award-winning restaurant is located on the 24th floor of The Ritz-Carlton in downtown LA. Before or after a Clippers, Lakers, or Kings game, keep an eye out for A-list athletes enjoying the spectacular views too.

Animal

If you were to trace LA’s current boom of exciting, highly regarded restaurants gathering attention, almost all roads would lead to Animal, the home of creative New American cooking in LA.

Maude

Newcomer to the LA dining scene is Curtis Stone's Maude, which was recently awarded ‘Best Restaurant in Los Angeles’. The set-price menu is built around a seasonal ingredient and changes each month. Impeccable service and a wonderful wine list add to its charm.

Original Farmer's Market

Back in 1934, local farmers began selling produce at the corner of 3rd and Fairfax. A handful of stalls still sell groceries, but they're outnumbered by 30-plus catering stands offering a culinary round-the-world trip, from French crepes to Texan BBQ. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Urban Radish

Urban Radish is a giant sprawling grocer in the Arts District. It's a neighbourhood-focused small business with spices, cured meats, artisan cheese, ready-to-eat selections, with an emphasis on quality product. On Meet the Maker days you can meet the artisans behind the products.

Los Angeles Food Trucks

Gourmet food trucks are a Los Angeles institution. Over 200 gourmet mobile food vendors roam the streets serving up everything from Korean BBQ to Sweet Treats to Grilled Cheese. Some are the offspring of well-known restaurants or chefs while others are a local chef’s first shot at LA stardom.

The Varnish

The Varnish is widely known as one of the original craft cocktail speakeasies in Los Angeles. Once you're through, you'll be treated to some of the best cocktails in the city in one of its most elegant settings with live jazz as a backdrop.

Best coffee in town

Los Angeles is now home to a small trove of artisanal roasters. For the best coffee in town, Single Origin Coffee at the Original Farmer's Market is hard to beat. Euro Caffee in Beverly Hills brews their coffee using their blend straight from Genoa, Italy.
