The warm, tropical islands of Fiji have long been a favourite destination for Australians. Just a short three hour flight from our eastern shores, holiday makers will find themselves in the midst of a lush Pacific oasis where the people are as warm and inviting as the golden sun that bathes its glorious beaches.
Clout and Turner Travel Associates clients Vernon and Jacqui Veryard of Queensland recently spent a restful holiday exploring the beauty of Fiji’s hidden beaches and coves while enjoying some of the most blissfully secluded and restful resorts in the South Pacific.
“Fiji is one of the most beautiful countries we have been to,” said Jacqui. “The people there are the loveliest you would ever care to meet. Where ever we went, we were treated as if we were part of their family.”
From the vibrant and bustling resort area of Denarau near Nadi with its mix of high rise hotels, restaurants and entertainment areas to the pristine islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levuand their peaceful havens of quiet seclusion, Vernon and Jacqui were able to experience much of the diverse accommodation scene. And while they enjoyed them all, the couple found Matangi Island Resort to be their favourite.
“The resorts were all quite different,” said Vernon, “but each was wonderful in their own way, though Jacqui and I thought that Matangi Island Resort was the best.”
Located just northwest of the larger Taveuni Island, Matangi Island is accessible by speedboat. This tiny atoll boasts lush tropical vegetation and beautiful palm tree lined beaches with perfect swimming, snorkelling and diving conditions. As the only resort on the lovely archipelago, Matangi Island Resort, is the ideal location for a romantic getaway or relaxing holiday.
Listen for the hypnotic beating of the traditional Fijian Lali drum which announces the beginning of dinner service. Enjoy beautifully prepared dishes in the resort’s elegant dining room or dine alfresco, either beachside along the gentle waves or on the dreamy outdoor veranda. Vernon and Jacqui agreed whole heartedly - “they combined luxury with warmth and friendliness and it left a lasting impression on us. We’ll be going back there again one day!”
“The whole trip was completely seamless,” Vernon recounted. “When we needed to get from one place to another there was always somebody there waiting to take us, all our flights were close to on time and all our accommodations were ready for us....we didn't have to think about anything. Considering they work on island time we were amazed that everything worked like clockwork. Many thanks to Melanie and her team for a wonderfully well organised holiday!”
