What to See in Bali

Spas, helicopter rides, jungle chic, Balinese cooking lessons or just chatting with locals. There are certain experiences that the island owns and delivers extremely well. Make sure you include some of these on your list of must dos.

Bali sunsets

The list is long; Bali ocean sunsets are a unique and ever changing spectacle. Loads of venues on the west coast are positioned to take full advantage of the spectacular show. Try a new venue (and signature cocktail) each day. It’s a tough task.

Komune at Keramas Beach

Reserve an afternoon or evening (they have floodlit night surfing) at Bali’s famous surfing mecca, where international pro surfers come to compete and surf its furious reef break, along with local legends. Recline on the bed-like lounges sipping Bintang, and watch the action.

Bali Safari and Marine Park

Feeling like you’ve stepped into a jungle scene from Jurassic Park, ride the safari bus through the open enclosure, home to a number of wild beasts and creatures. The animal shows are educational and environmentally conscious.

Under the sea

It’s no secret. Getting underwater in Bali is a must. Great dive spots you should add to your list: Amed, Gili Tepekong, Menjangan Island and Tulamben. Nusa Lembongan, a 30 minute fast boat from Sanur, will thrill you with giant manta rays, turtles and a lively underwater world.

Volcanoes with a view

Two enormous volcanoes tower over the island at its centre. Both Mount Agung and Batur are well worth the trek to experience sunrise at the summit, with the island and surrounding sea below.

Balinese cooking lessons

Sign up for an authentic Balinese cooking lesson. Learn how to select fresh local herbs and spices at the market, how to prepare it all, and how to present it all with a unique local touch.

Luxury spas galore

There’s a number of delicious spas on the island, in fact it’s become an art form. For something super different, take the Aquatonic Seawater Spa at Ayana Resort. Walk through the pool circuit while being pummelled by strategically placed water jets, in warm water pumped directly from the Indian Ocean.

Ubud

Morning tea and a dip at Ubud Hanging Gardens’ iconic, piano-shaped infinity pool, and spend an afternoon lazing, nibbling and sipping, beside the chic pool amidst the forest at Jungle Fish.

The island from above

Possibly the most awesome views to be had are from the air. Air Bali offers private or group tours, and transfers to nearby islands. Many of the world’s elite explore the island this way, and let’s face it, you'd be silly not to. Take a helicopter ride over the island, its ocean surrounds, even get a glimpse of the big volcano in Java.

Talk to a local

Bali’s locals are some of the friendliest in the world, and sincerely enjoy hearing all about your world, while sharing theirs. Don’t be surprised if you are invited back for lunch
to meet the family.
