Regal Splendour on Cunard

14th March 2024

Experience the old-world charm of glamorous surrounds and superior service as it should be.

There’s something unique about travelling on one of Cunard’s Three Queens. It’s the lineage that does it: over 150 years of history, stretching back through some of the all-time great ocean liners. It’s a heritage that hits you the second you look up at the ship from the dock and continues as you board past a real live string quartet into the towering Art Deco lobby.

There’s a retro glamour that extends from the dark wood of the library to the games of croquet and deck quoits, from ballroom dancing beneath a chandelier to a musical in the full-size theatre. Part of that, of course, lies in the famous dress code. If you’re enjoying the haute cuisine in one of the gilded restaurants–expect everything from steak to lobster on the menu–then it’s dresses or a suit for the ladies, and jackets for the men. (Although, of course, if you feel like dining less formally, there’s always the buffet, the deckside bars, or textbook perfect fish and chips at the Golden Lion pub.)

High Tea, part of the White Star Service experience

Part of it rests in the White Star Service, a thoroughly British and theatrical tradition. High Tea is a bona fide show, as scores of white-gloved waiters enter the ballroom bearing tea, cakes and scones, to the accompaniment of a string quartet.

"Cruising with Cunard is an experience you'll never forget. The ships exude elegance and old-world charm, yet have all the modern facilities you need. With one of the most extensive libraries at sea, I recommend choosing a book and relaxing in a quiet spot. Pre-dinner drinks in the Laurent-Perrier Champagne Bar are also a must.' - Rachael Heelan, Ross & Turner Associates QLD

In the Commodore Club, as the sun goes down over the ocean, servers in bum-freezer jackets shake martinis at the table. In the Verandah Restaurant, the finest of the ship’s fine dining,
dishes come complete with airs and smokes and bell-jars. The staff ratio is also world class: one crew member to every two guests. Whether you’re joining for a short weekend getaway or iconic journeys like the Transatlantic or full World Voyage, Cunard is a line that inspires passion. In fact, the term “Cunarder”, which once defined a Cunard steamship, now describes a Cunard devotee.
