15th October 2019

After months of speculation and much anticipation, the announcement of Royal Caribbean’s newest island destination has been made – and it’s in our backyard. Perfect Day at Lelepa, Vanuatu will open in 2022 and will be the Southern Hemisphere’s first private island destination cruising experience.

It will also be the first carbon neutral private cruise destination in the world, with sustainability features designed to safeguard the island’s delicate ecosystems audited by an independent third-party expert to ensure they meet the standards for carbon neutrality.

Perfect Day at Lelepa is being created in partnership with the local community to showcase the distinct natural ecological beauty and diverse local culture of the island as well as provide employment and education opportunities. It is and will remain a destination that touches the heart and restores the soul.

Anyone who has encountered the friendly locals and breathtaking natural beauty of Lelepa will understand why it is the perfect setting for Royal Caribbean’s newest ‘Perfect Day.’ Here you will find more than 160 acres of tropical rainforest and palm fringed beaches which look like they’ve come straight from a picture postcard. Nearby tropical reefs are easy to reach and filled with so many shimmering fish that it feels as if you are swimming inside an aquarium.

Small group tours of Fels Cave, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site with rock drawings up to 3,000 years old, are available for visitors to the island. All of the cave walls are covered to head height with cave paintings, with some believed to be dating back to the first millennium BC.

If you’re travelling with kids, Lelepa provides an educational insight into traditional island life. Your children won’t find the latest toys, gadgets or electronic gear here. Instead, they will be warmly welcomed by local children who form part of the 500 strong population on the tiny island.

There are only a couple of small villages plus a school, a kindergarten and two churches. However, there is plenty of fun to be had and enough space for kids to play together for hours without getting bored. If you want to show young children a different culture, Lelepa provides the perfect introduction.
