Begin your adventure of “The Snowies” with a visit to Gundagai (about a 4-hour drive south west of Sydney). The picturesque town has a rich cultural history that you can discover on the Gundagai Architectural Heritage Walk. Perhaps one of its most famous historic monuments is the famed Dog on the Tucker Box.
Enjoy a few days of much needed respite in this quiet town with ample options available for luxury accommodation or boutique stays. The Kimo Estate is truly a memorable stay with amazing views across the 7000-acre property.

Next on your journey is a visit to Tumut. This particular region is popular for exceptional farm-to-table produce, so don’t be afraid to explore the local wineries and cafes. Sample some craft beer at Tumut River Brewing Co, the locally owned and operated brewery. Plus, make sure you take the time to visit Blowering Dam, the biggest dam in New South Wales.
Continuing south, we suggest stopping in Batlow to visit Wilgro Orchard to try homemade pies and sparkling juice made from local produce. Then onto Courabyra Wines in Tumbarumba to sample world-class premium wines coupled with impeccable scenery of the Snowy Mountains (And for those seeking the easy way there, why not fly by helicopter). We suggest at least a couple of days in the area to truly explore the breadth of culinary delights on offer.
Insider Tip: Time your trip just right to attend the annual Batlow Cider Festival featuring the best boutique ciders around the country (Usually held in May you can also expect a beautiful autumn atmosphere).
