If you've been daydreaming about the perfect place to unwind, there's nothing like a few blissful days in Fiji to refresh and re-inspire.
In our increasingly fast-paced society, finding the right balance between work and play is vital to support our wellbeing. This means planning some well-earned time off, as well as spending quality time with family and friends.
While we certainly know how to work, Australians are less than diligent when it comes to using our leave. According to a recent survey, our fair nation is ranked third in the world for 'holiday deprivation', with almost half (44 per cent) of workers finishing up the year with holiday leave still owing.
Fortunately, there is a simple fix to this situation: start planning your Fiji adventure. Here are four reasons to help motivate you to block out the space on your calendar.
1. Get your fill of vitamin D
It probably comes as a no surprise that we are spending very few hours outside during our daily lives, perhaps due to the plethora of tech devices that keep us engrossed for both work and entertainment purposes.
One study published in the British Journal of Dermatology even places our time spent out in the fresh air at approximately one-1.5 hours each day. However, this average time increases to up to five-six hours when on holiday.
Fortunately, Fiji enjoys warm climes year round, even in the 'cooler' season (May to November), when Tourism Fiji notes temperatures range from 19-29 degrees.
Thanks to Fiji's stunning beaches, you can be certain to get a healthy dose of vitamin D to support strong bones and good overall health.
2. You'll never get tired of the food
Fijian food comes as a much-needed awakening of the senses for anyone who has grown tired of the same old meals. The local cuisine relies upon the bounty of the sea as well as a rich array of home-grown fruit and veg to create great dishes.
With Fiji being a cultural melting pot, there is a strong Indian influence seen in the local restaurants offering an array of curries. Kokodo is an absolute must try - a raw fish salad akin to Hawaii's poke. Made with mahi mahi fish in a coconut cream marinade, this is a refreshing hit of the ocean to the tastebuds.
In addition, many of the big resorts also host a traditional lovo night, a true Fijian treat where your meal is cooked in an earth oven.
Last but not least, Fiji holidays just wouldn't be complete without a sampling of some kava. This alcoholic drink is found in many guises throughout the South Pacific, and is made from the roots of the kava plant. Expect a very particular, earthy and spicy pepper palate.

3. Unlimited relaxation
Once you touch down at Nadi International Airport, you are officially on island time. Turn off that pesky 6:30am alarm and waken to the gentle wash of the waves. Instead of having a quick coffee and slice of toast, you'll be tucking into breakfast at your resort, watching the sun climb over the beach.
Speaking of the magnificent Fijian landscape, you may find being out in the open air is just what you need to unwind. A study by the University of Rochester found that by spending even 20 minutes outdoors in nature, people can feel more alive and re-energised.
You can achieve this for yourself by stretching out on the beach, going for a lazy paddle in the crystalline water, or even taking a walk under the rainforest canopy of Koroyanitu National Park.
Don't forget, many of the big Fijian resorts have their own spas and massage tables for you to find the right state of bliss whilst having any knots worked out by a masseuse.
4. Boredom is impossible to find
If you're worried you might tire of all the down time - hard to imagine - there's fortunately plenty to keep you occupied in Fiji. Denarau Island, which is nestled by the coast of Viti Levu's mainland, is home to a world-class 18-hole golf course, as well as a racquet club.
Denarau is also the base for some of Fiji's most exciting activities. With Adrenalin Fiji, you can book a raft of high-octane experiences from parasailing and jetskiing to wind surfing and wakeboarding.
For those with young ones tagging along, Adrenalin has options for visitors over the age of two in the form of a jet boat ride and kayak fishing.
