Speaking of adventures, Merrilee’s own often incorporate snow. A fervent skier, she is particularly fond of Queenstown, New Zealand and the snow resorts of Coronet Peak & The Remarkables, which are just a short distance from town.
“The thrill of flying into Queenstown airport over those majestic ranges, the exhilaration of skiing with a backdrop of stunning vistas, drinking mulled wine on the mountain, and the warming comfort of the best hot chocolate at Patagonia Chocolate on Lake Wakatipu's foreshore - these are experiences I eagerly share with my clients,” says Merrilee.
While she has designed many remarkable trips for her happy customers, one that stands out was a one-of-a-kind journey she crafted for a couple from Kayrunnera, a sheep station north of Broken Hill. After years of drought, Merrilee’s charge was to make the trip – a surprise 50th birthday combined with a 25th wedding anniversary celebration – extra special. She nailed the brief with an itinerary that was nothing short of spectacular.
“There was a flight to Las Vegas, a lavish stay at the Bellagio with a fountain view room, and a surprise vow renewal ceremony officiated by Elvis Presley himself (or at least a very good facsimile),” Merrilee recalls. But it didn’t stop there.
“Another high point was a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon with champagne on the side of the canyon. On their journey home, a serene stopover in Hawaii awaited the newlyweds. When clients send you photos while they're travelling, you know that you've played a pivotal role in making their travel dreams come true,’ she says.
